From GTC Berlin to Dia do Exército: a week on the road with the UBR stack.

Quick update from the UB Robotics team. This past week took us from an outdoor live demo in Berlin during NVIDIA GTC week straight back to Portugal to join the Portuguese Army for Dia do Exército.

We went to Berlin as an NVIDIA Inception company for the Physical AI and Robotics Partner Day, and to put UBR-001 to work live at the official GTC afterparty hosted by PROTOTYPE. We build the intelligence, not the robots, and our stack runs around three parts: Simulator, UBR Brain, and the Coordination Layer. Whenever we travel, the goal is to run a real task outside the lab in front of people who build and operate hardware.

The night before the Berlin demo, our apartment floor turned into a workbench. We had UBR-001 hooked up to a 12V bench supply and radio link while we tuned the onboard UBR Brain, running Cosmos locally on an NVIDIA Jetson inside our custom enclosure.

The PROTOTYPE event the next evening was outdoors at BRLO, with a packed crowd and around 1,500 people on the waitlist. Instead of showing slides, we put UBR-001 down on the outdoor deck, took the microphone, and gave it a live search run: find a suitcase out in the crowd. With perception and decision-making running locally on the robot, UBR-001 worked through the outdoor space on onboard cameras and depth while we walked people through what the brain was seeing and deciding in real time.

Right after Berlin, we flew back to Portugal for the Dia do Exército weekend on 24 and 25 October, joining the Portuguese Army at their innovation and experimentation stand. There we only brought the humanoid and the standalone UBR Brain unit. We spent the two days talking with officers, soldiers, and visitors about what’s coming next for the Army in autonomy and the capabilities we need to build here in Portugal, while the humanoid in its Army shirt met families and kids visiting the exhibition.

Two very different rooms in a single week: builders and researchers in Berlin, and the people thinking about defence capabilities on the ground in Portugal.
